L. Carolyn Campbell, (nee Smith), 77, Wakeman, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 13, 2016 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky after a two month illness. L. Carolyn Campbell, (nee Smith), 77, Wakeman, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 13, 2016 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky after a two month illness. She was born on September 26, 1938 in Ruggles Twp. on the same farm where her mother was born. Raised in Ruggles, she was a graduate of Ruggles/Troy High School in 1956. Growing up she was a member of the Ruggles Community Church and taught Sunday School. She was also a 4-H member and Junior Garden Club member. After graduation, she worked at Bale Noff/New Lons in New London for 12 years. On February 24, 1968, she married Gaius Campbell and moved to Wakeman and lived there for the rest of her life. While in Wakeman, she was a homemaker, she raised her son, and was a member of the Wakeman UCC and the Wakeman Pinochle Club. She was an avid sports fan and lover of nature and animals. She was also an avid collector of antiques and crafts. She was well known for her collection of glass hens on a nest. Those surviving her are her son and caregiver Steven, of Wakeman, step-son, Jim (DeAnn) Campbell, of Norwalk, daughter-in-law Janet Campbell, of Norwalk, grandchildren, D’Arcy, Matt, Jill, Kim, and Carey, and their children, sister-in-law Marla Smith, of Wellington, nieces, Hylan, Shannon, Reagan, Devon, and their children, her lifelong “Forever Friends”, Joan, Frannie, and Betty, and many close neighbors and friends in Wakeman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 18 years, Gaius Campbell in 1986, her parents Nelson “Bud” and Mary Helen Smith (nee Coates), her brother Rodney Smith, and her step-son Tim Campbell. Family and friends may call on Saturday March 19, 2016 from 11:00 am until the time of memorial services at 12:00 noon at the Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman. Pastor Marty Daly, of the Ruggles Community Church will be officiating. Private burial will take place at Wakeman Cemetery Steven would like to send a special thank you to the staff and volunteers of Stein Hospice for their incredible love and care.
